Garbage Attracts Bears
The Kawartha Lakes Police Service and the Kawartha Lakes Fire and Rescue were busy last evening escorting a bear out of town limits.
At 10:40 pm on Wednesday May 16th, a bear was observed in the neighbourhood of Mary Street and Hamilton Street in the Town of Lindsay.
The bear was believed to be attracted into town limits due to a large amount of household garbage placed on the curbs in anticipation of Thursday morning pick-up.
When police had difficulty prying the bear away from curb side garbage, they called for the assistance of the fire department's water hoses. Both emergency services were successful in escorting the bear south of town.
Police urge residents when at all possibly, to place their household garbage on the curb the day of pick-up as opposed to the night before.
Police also remind the community that if a bear is seen, keep family and pets inside. Call police immediately who will then make the determination as to whether or not that particular bear is a threat to the community.
